FYI: SSG 69 re-barrel

I have the opportunity to purchase an SSG-69 from a family member who received it from a friend who passed away. The rifle is in excellent condition and I would like to own it. However, I do wear out rifle barrels a couple of times a year and I have heard that you can not rebarrel the SSG69 in the U.S.A. Does anyone have any information on this? It would take some time to wear out this rifle, but I shoot well over 500 rounds a month so this is a real concern for me.
