WTK: Fantasizing: AUG in different calibers?

Assuming that we will be able to continue to purchase and enjoy firearms into the distant future, what are the possibilities of having the AUG chambered for different cartridges, say something based on the .308 Winchester case or the 7.62x39mm case? The way the AUG mag is designed with the rear lock-up, I think the M-14 or FAL mag would probably be a good design to start from for cartridges that share the .308 Win case, and for the 7.62x39mm case the Kalashnikov case would be the most logical choice. I don't think that Steyr would be interested in pursuing such a course, although they are giving some consideration to the 6.8 Rem.
I was just fantasizing about Pete's private venture where he would have the ability to entertain such projects once his current one is solidly off the ground, and I think he's potentially in a much better position to make this a reality. I know that everything has to be reconsidered, even down to the springs and pins. I'm not an engineer, but I think it's not trivial to modify any firearm to properly handle cartridges using different parent cases with varying levels of standard operating pressures as his company may not have all the engineering talent that a bigger firm like Steyr does, so the time spent on R&D may be more time consuming and expensive and may be cost inefficient.
Personally, I'd like to see an AUG in some other commercial cartridge such as the .260 REM or a wildcat cartridge such as a .338-308 Win or even a .375-308 Win.
That being said, I like the idea of the Singaporean bull-pup that incorporates a Kevlar shield in the stock underneath where one's cheek rests. This might be difficult to incorporate in the AUG if Pete's company would still like to make the rifle changeable for righties and lefties. The ejection port cover would still be the weak point, and my neck is over it when I use the AUG.
