I have to second the .308 idea in a big way, but the redesign would be massive. The 6.8 or even my preference, the 6.5, would be much easier. No matter what, I'm in for an STG556, the ability to convert to one of the "new" trade up calibers would be great, the 9mm would be even better, and the .308 the ultimate, but it just may not be realistic.
