I think TDP is taking the easiest path towards the market; hence the mixture of factory with domestic parts. The M-16 magazine compatible AUG stock was currently available, so it was used. Perhaps once they get fully up and running they may cater to left-handed users.
Pete is building the AUG from the ground up and is in full control over design, subcontracting, and production, so I think his rifles will probably have the edge in function and component fit than anything else outside of the factory.
All of this is my best guess from limited info available. I'd like to hear your thoughts. By the way, I shoot long arms left handed at times too.
All being said, I'm glad there are options outside of the factory. I'm sorry to say that civilian customer committment may not be Steyr's strength.
