In Response To: FYI: Steyr Manufactured Aug Pricing? (Mike)

Original AUGs will always demand premium $$$s. Since 9/11 the value on all semi auto firearms took a dip. Before 9/11 black nib AUGs use to sell for 6 grand, after 9/11 they dropped to $4500 or so. I bought 2 nib black AUGs from PJS 2 years ago for $9k delivered and they came with extra mags. If you check the boards they still are around $4500 for a nib black AUG.

I wouldn't start dumping my original Steyr AUGs for American made ones. Personally I don't think the quality of the Austrian AUG can be matched. The Steyr AUGs and USRs have chromed lined cold hammer forged barrels, I don't think you are going to get that in a USA made AUG. Look at ADI in Australia, it took them 2 years and millions of dollars to get their F88 AUG version to function correctly. They were licensed by Steyr and provided with all the technical engineering data. The AUG is not an easy rifle to duplicate.

Lets see here, Pjs teamed up with Microtech Knives which is a knife company, no disrespect to them but do they know anything about building a rifle?
Building a knife is quite different then building a rifle. I know PJS is known in the gun world as the Steyr AUG guru for parts and repairing Steyr AUGs but it takes more then that to build one. It takes reputable gun companies years to design, tool up, build and test rifles from ground up not months. Does anyone here know if Pjs & Microtech has built an actual functioning AUG style rifle and test fired it yet? On the boards I read that the ones displayed at the Shot Show were just prototype STGs, not real functioning guns. If you have kept up with PJS web site it use to say STG 556 rifles coming in late January, now PJS web site reads STG 556 rifles "Available Early 2007. It seems that they already have delays and pushed the delivery date back.

What about the TPD American made AUG style rifle? Also no disrespect to him but on the AR.15 boards he claims to be a stunt man by trade and now he is going to build an American made AUG. I have been on the gun boards for a very long time and I have never heard of TPD. What does he know about building an American made Steyr AUG style rifle? Does anyone know if he has a complete functioning AUG style rifle yet?

The point I am trying to make here is simple, show me an American made functioning Steyr AUG style rifle and then I will believe it. I will even buy a few once they are tested and proven.

Bottom line, don't panic and sell your original Steyr AUGs. You will regret it in the long run. If Pjs & Microtech and TPD don't come through with their American made Steyr AUGs the original Steyr AUGs prices will go up and sellers will regret getting rid of their AUGs. There will never be a real Austrian made Steyr AUG available in the USA. No one will be able to duplicate the AUG, period. You will never see a $2500 AUG. There is a limited suppy of AUGs out there.

My advice is, If you want an original AUG you better buy it now while the prices are low.

The original AUGs are battle proven, the American made AUGs are not.
